After playing four years of women's soccer at Purdue Fort Wayne (2020-23), Sam Castañeda returned to Fort Wayne as the Equipment and Game Operations Coordinator in 2024. She added the role of women's soccer's goalkeeper coach in 2025.
Prior to her return to the Summit City, Castañeda spent a season playing professional soccer for Medyk Konin in Poland.
As a student-athlete for the Mastodons, Castañeda was an all-time great keeper for the 'Dons. She was the 2022 Horizon League Goalkeeper of the Year and became the program's all-time leader in single-season and career goals against average and shutouts. She also owned the program record for career saves.
Castañeda was a five-time Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week and an All-Horizon League First Team selection in 2022. She also earned a spot on the College Soccer News National Team of the Week on September 12, 2022 and a United Soccer Coaches All-North Region Second Team nod in 2022.
Castañeda and her wife Rosie live in Fort Wayne.
