Tanisha Johnson enters her fifth season as an assistant track and field coach in 2017-18 at Fort Wayne. She is responsible for the sprints, hurdles, jumps, pole vault and multis.
During her time with the Mastodons, Coach Johnson has helped coach 20 of a possible 23 school record performances. Johnson has aided two student-athletes to individual All-Summit League honors, Kaylin Taylor (400m Hurdles) and Olivia Coleman (400m). Johnson has seen the team finish in its highest Indoor conference position in school history and have its highest number of athletes qualify for the conference finals ever.
Prior to coaching at Fort Wayne, Johnson spent the 2010-2011 season as a Volunteer Assistant Coach at her alma mater, Central Michigan University. While there, she assisted with the jumps, pole vault, and multi-event athletes. After her time at CMU, while attending school for her Master’s degree, she spent two years as a sports performance trainer and was a pole vault coach at Bloomington High School North (Bloomington, Ind.) where she coached three state meet qualifiers.
Johnson began her collegiate track career at Grand Valley State University where she lettered for two years and received All-GLIAC honors. She then transferred to CMU where she competed as a heptathlete and jumper. Johnson was a varsity letterman, received All-MAC honors in the high jump and was a multiple time conference scorer.
Johnson has certification as a USATF Level 3 and IAAF Level 5 Coach in the Multi-Events. She also is a USATF Level 2 Coach in sprint, hurdles, relays, and jumps, as well as USATFCCCA certified. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management from CMU and a Master of Science in Kinesiology with a Sport Science emphasis from Indiana University Bloomington.
A native of Michigan, Johnson attended Macomb Dakota High School where she was a 5-time All-State Athlete including an MITS Champion in the triple jump and MHSAA State Runner up in the long jump; graduating in 2006.
