In 1997, Heffron began his administrative career as the department’s business manager while coaching. Since that time, Heffron has supervised all budget, accounting, travel, contracts purchasing and payroll activities of the department. Administratively, he continues to assemble and complete many Federal and NCAA reports and audits as well as strategic planning for the department. In 1999, Heffron relinquished the coaching duties becoming an Assistant Athletic Director. As a fulltime administrator, he was able to focus solely on the department’s administrative requirements as Purdue Fort Wayne Athletics transitioned from NCAA Division II to Division I.
In 2008, Heffron was promoted to Associate Athletic Director taking leadership role in the department as well as campus operations.
In 2012, Heffron was promoted to Senior Associate Athletic Director overseeing the internal and financial operations of the department along with sport oversight of men’s and women’s soccer, baseball, and softball.
Prior to 1993, Heffron was the assistant women's volleyball coach at St. Cloud State University (1991-1993). There he recruited and coached only 2 All-Americans SCSU had. A total 4 of his players still have the majority of the SCSU team records. While SCSU's 1990 record was 8-24, it was 24-12 in 1992.
From the fall of 1986 to the spring of 1990, Heffron was a member of the Purdue Fort Wayne men's volleyball team. As a setter, he helped the program progress to its first regular season MIVA title in 1990. In 1991, he graduated from IPFW majoring in psychology and minoring in business.
Tim and his wife, Jean reside in Fort Wayne. Tim has one step-daughter, Andrea, and granddaughter Evelyn.
