Among the additions during the renovation of the Gates Sports Center was the creation of the Mastodon Academic Performance (M.A.P.) Student Academic Center.
The facility includes seating for 43 student-athletes at a time in the main study area, in addition to numerous computer work stations and a group study room.
The Mastodon Academic Performance (MAP) Center's charge is to monitor and ensure the NCAA continuing eligibility of, and provide academic support for, Purdue Fort Wayne student-athletes. As a department within the Division of Student Affairs at Purdue Fort Wayne and separate from the Athletic Department, the MAP Center also holds responsibility for interpreting and implementing Purdue Fort Wayne policies such as the Purdue Fort Wayne Baccalaureate Framework, the Student Affairs Six Degrees of Connection, and the MAP Center Drive for Five* as they relate to students within MAP and the athletic department.
MAP Center advisors provide some academic advising support for student-athletes, but consider themselves to be generalists in the field. Student-athletes are required to work with their assigned primary advisor from their academic departments in order to assure that department requirements and expectations for graduation are met.
MAP Mission StatementThe purpose of the MAP Center is to provide on-going academic, athletic, career development, personal development support of student-athletes and to encourage service to the community by student-athletes, with the ultimate goal of supporting the accomplishment of a higher education degree.
