Cape Girardeau, MO-The IPFW Mastodons got breakout games from Juco transfers Chris Perkins and Jaraun Burrows in an 84-65 rout of Southeast Missouri State, on Wednesday night at the Show Me Center.
Perkins led the 'Dons on a 20-8 run to open the game, and finished the contest with a career-high 23 points.
SEMO roared back and cut the lead to one with a 16-5 run, capped by a three-point basket by junior guard David Johnson, making it 25-24 with 8:49 remaining in the opening half.
Junior forward DeWitt Scott shot the lights out from that point, hitting three three-pointers to stake the 'Dons to a 43-34 lead at the half.
That is as close as the Redhawks would get in the second half.
Burrows scored 12 of his career-high 16 points in the final stanza, two on a thunderous slam, and senior forward Tyler Best had a solid game with 15 points as the 'Dons cruised to the 19-point win.
Perkins added seven rebounds and three steals for his final line.
Scott was the fourth 'Don in double-figures with 13 points.
SEMO (2-5) was led by Johnson's 16 points.
The Mastodons had their best shooting night of the season, hitting on 54.1% of their shots. They outrebounded the 'Hawks 40-26 and had nine steals.
With the win, IPFW improves to 3-4. They begin their dance through NCAA tournament teams on Saturday with a game at Air Force. From there the 'Dons take on Michigan State, then host Kent State.
Saturday's contest at Air Force tips-off at 2pm.
