
Mastodons Grounded by Panthers

Cedar Falls, IA - The Mastodons dropped their third game in a row as they traveled to Northern Iowa on Thursday night. With an eight point deficit at half, the Mastodons couldn't recover, falling 76-57 to the Panthers.
Although the 'Dons started the game with a 2-0 lead, the Panthers went on a 5-0 run at the 14:41 mark. Juliane Höhne hit a jumper to cut their lead to one just 20 seconds later. The Mastodons continued from there, posting 7 points to UNI's two to take a four point lead with 10:48 left in the half.
IPFW continued to hold onto their lead for the next three minutes after Johnna Lewis-Carlisle hit one from beyond the arc to go ahead by eight, 18-10. An 8-0 run by Panthers would tie the game up at 18 with 5:17 left in the half. The Panthers continued from there, finishing the game ahead by eight, 27-19.
UNI took their first double-digit lead just eight seconds into the second half. An 8-2 run would put the Panthers up by 16 with 16:05 left in the game. IPFW would hit a streak, connecting for 11 points, capped off by a three-pointer by Hilary O'Connell to cut UNI's lead to five. But just under two minutes later the Panthers were up by 12 with 11:38 left.
The Panthers would continue their run, finishing the game up by 19, 76-57.
Ashley Johnson led the 'Dons with 18 points. She was 6 of 10 from the field and 6 of 8 from the line.
Lewis-Carlisle connected for 11 points and 7 boards. She added three steals for the night.
Höhne came off the bench, adding 10 points and a block in just 12 minutes. She was 5 of 8 from the field.
The Panthers were led by Tara King with 27 points and 11 boards. Megan Keefe added a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards. Jessie Biggs wrapped up the Pathers in double-digits with 10 points.
The Mastodons will host Marygrove College on Saturday at the Gates Center. Game time is 1 PM. IPFW will wrap up 2006 at Winthrop on December 28th.
