
Peters' Hat-Trick Puts a Lid on IPFW

Fort Wayne, IN- The scoreboard could have read, Brad Peters 3-IPFW 1. Eastern Illinois' sophomore forward found the back of the net three times in the Panthers' win over IPFW, Friday night at the Hefner Soccer Complex.
Both teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half. Peters got his first goal of the match at the 56:12 mark as he chipped a shot over the head of IPFW keeper Josh Howell, into the upper right hand corner of the net.
The Mastodons (0-5-0) tied the match in the 75th minute as freshman midfielder Josh Sommer got the ball ahead to fellow freshman Chris Moreno in the crease. Moreno headed it passed Panthers' keeper Mark Hansen.
The IPFW goal was shorthanded because the 'Dons were forced to play the final 22 minutes a man down.
Peters got the game winner for Eastern Illinois (4-1-0) at the 82:28 mark. He gathered in a turnover in front and had Howell at his mercy.
Peters finished off the scoring in the final minute of play, converting a pass from freshman forward Evan Philpott, from about 18 yards out.
Hansen made two saves to get the win. Howell turned back 11 shots in the loss.
IPFW returns to action on Monday (9/11), traveling to Green Bay, Wisconsin to take on the UWGB Phoenix. Match time is 1pm.
