
'Dons Ace Jacks in Five

Fort Wayne, IN - The IPFW Mastodons hosted the conference leading South Dakota State Jackrabbits on Friday night at the Gates Center. The 'Dons rallied in game five to take down the Jacks, 3-2. The Mastodons are now 7-0 at home this season.
It was a back and forth match with IPFW winning 3-2 (23-30, 30-13, 26-30, 30-16, 15-12).
Game one started off with a back and forth battle until the Jacks got some momentum and pushed ahead 5-10. The Jacks would continue to hold a lead over the 'Dons, 23-30.
The Mastodons had a strong start to game two, 4-1. The Jacks would fight back to 6-5, before the 'Dons went on a 12-3 run to spread the lead to ten, 18-8. The 'Dons would hold off the Jackrabbits from there with a 7-0 run at the end, 30-13.
Game three would be a battle with neither team able to pull away at first. The match was tied at 9-9 when the 'Dons went ahead by two, 11-9 on a kill by Jessica Dominiak. The Jacks would answer, tying the match again, this time at 11. It would be a battle again at that point, with neither team really being able to take the advantage until the Jacks got ahead at 17-20.
The 'Dons weren't going down without a fight, climbing back to within one at 20-21. Two more points would give the Jacks a three point advantage at 20-23, and they would hold it and take the game, 26-30.
The Mastodons came out fighting in game four, taking a 11-6 lead on a service ace by Peachy Jankowski. A 6-1 run by the 'Dons would put them ahead by ten, 17-7. From there, the closest the Jackrabbits got was within seven at 20-13. IPFW would once again pull ahead by ten at 24-14 and take down the Jacks, 30-16.
With the match tied at two games each, game five started. The Jacks rallied, taking a 2-5 lead but IPFW wasn't going down that easily. The 'Dons went on a 6-1 run to take the lead, 8-6 at the switch. From there, IPFW took a three point lead at 12-9 and the match shortly there after, 15-12.
The Mastodons handed the Jacks their first conference loss of the season. The 'Dons improved to 10-8 overall and 4-3 in the Summit League.
Rebekah Roehm led IPFW on the offense with 19 kills. She tied her personal best with six aces and added five assists and four blocks. Roehm almost had a double-double, she dug nine balls on the night.
Jessica Miller was close behind Roehm with 17 kills and two block solos and three block assists.
Mayara Schlindwein went 12 of 24 with a .417 hitting percentage and only two errors.
Dominiak dished out 48 assists and also just missed the double-double with nine digs. She was 5 of 9 on the attack and had two service aces.
Jankowski had 18 digs, taking her career total to 1,939. She had five service aces, a personal career best.
Cynara Martins led in the back row with 20 digs. She added nine kills and two blocks.
The Mastodons had 16 service aces on the night compared to South Dakota State's three. The Jacks out blocked the 'Dons 14.5 to 11 total team blocks.
The Jacks were led by Amy Anderson with 15 kills and seven block assists. Emily Rooney had 13 kills and Kristina Martin had 12 kills and 13 digs. Martin also had five block assists.
Melia Iwamoto had 38 assists and Samantha Pearson dug 29 balls.
The Mastodons (10-8, 4-3 Summit League) will face conference and in-state foe IUPUI on Saturday night at 7 PM in the Gates Center. The 'Dons next home match is October 20th when they host the UMKC Kangaroos in a Summit League conference match starting at 7 PM in the Gates Center.
