Farrell Strikes Twice as SDSU Tops IPFW

Brookings, SD - South Dakota State junior forward Kellyn Farrell scored twice within a five minute time span, as the Jacks kept the 'Dons winless on the year with a 4-0 shutout, Friday night in Brookings, South Dakota.
Farrell's pair of scores came after sophomore defender Jessica Heine converted a penalty kick in the 17th minute of action.
Leading 3-0 at half, the Jacks got an insurance goal at the 53:16 mark. Senior forward Kelsey Worcester's goal was her fourth of the season.
South Dakota State (3-3-3) dominated the play for most of the match, out-shooting IPFW 27-8.
IPFW freshman goal keeper Malinda Holmer made 10 saves in the loss.
The SDSU goalkeeping tandem of Daniella Pappas and Brienna Rogers each played a half and stopped all five Mastodon shots on goal.
Tonight's meeting was the first for both teams as members of the Summit League. Both SDSU and IPFW competed in the United Soccer Conference and won conference championships. IPFW in 2005 and South Dakota State in 2006.
With the loss, IPFW falls to 0-10-0 (0-2-0, SL). The 'Dons will look to break through on Sunday afternoon at North Dakota State. Kick off for the Summit League match is 12:00 p.m.
