Fargo, ND - Sophomore midfielder Lorainne Thompson scored her third and fourth goals of the season as North Dakota State shutout IPFW, 3-0 in women's soccer action on Sunday afternoon in Fargo, North Dakota.
Thompson's first goal broke a scoreless tie at the 37:25 mark. She gathered in a ball at the top of the penalty box and beat IPFW netminder Malinda Holmer to the right corner.
The score remained 1-0 until after halftime.
In the second half, Thompson gave the Bison a 2-0 lead in the 61st minute. Nearly a carbon copy of her first tally, Thompson found herself with room from 10 yards out and worked the right corner of the net again.
At the 72:00 mark, freshman forward Quin Ryan drove the length of the field, scoring her second goal of the season, giving North Dakota State a 3-0 win.
Bison keeper Monica Morgan stopped both IPFW she faced in the win.
Holmer turned aside six Bison shots in the loss
NDSU improves to 8-4-0 and 2-1 in Summit League play, while the Mastodons remain winless at 0-11-0, 0-3-0 SL.
The 'Dons will make the long trek back to Fort Wayne and head to Terre Haute, Indiana for a reschedule match with Indiana State on Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. That match was postponed last Tuesday due to a number of Mastodon players suffering flu-like symptoms.
The ISU contest will be the final non-conference match for IPFW this season. They will continue Summit League action, hosting Centenary College at the Hefner Soccer Complex on Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
