
'Dons Fall in Season Opener to Rockets

Toledo, OH - The Mastodons opened their 2007-08 season at Toledo, a team just a year ago the 'Dons defeated 66-55 at home in the home opener. The Rockets weren't going to be defeated at home as they defeated the 'Dons 87-75.
The Mastodons started the game with a 1-0 lead on a free throw by Courtney Reed. The Rockets answered back, but the 'Dons were able to pull ahead a 7-5 with 16:19 left in the half.
IPFW extended their lead to four after over three minutes of no scoring in the game. The Rockets would make the next two baskets to tie the game up at 9 with 12:30 left.
Toledo would start to hold the 'Dons from there, taking their first double-digit lead at the 7:51 mark left in the first half, 22-12. A free throw by Tina Moen would cut the lead to nine, and Chelsey Jackson would also help keep the deficit to under ten with a good layup with 6:34 left in the half.
Toledo would take their largest lead of the half at the 5:22 mark. The Rockets went ahead by thirteen on a good layup by Ta'Yani Clark. Toledo would finish out the first half with a ten point lead, 40-30.
IPFW's Juliane Höhne cut the lead to eight with a good layup to start the second half.
The Mastodons would continue to try to cut the Rockets lead, but Toledo continued to make their shots, holding an eleven point lead with 10:16 left in the half.
IPFW began to cut away at that point, going on a 10-2 run capped by a three-pointer by Jordan Zuppe to cut the Rockets lead to three with 8:13 left in the game.
The Rockets though weren't going down without a fight and they proved they were in it for the long run, taking the game by a final of 87-75.
The Mastodons were led by Johnna Lewis-Carlisle with 22 points. She went 3 of 4 from the three-point line and was 7 of 9 at the charity stripe.
In her first game as a Mastodon Zuppe posted 18 points. She went 7 of 12 from the field and 4 of 5 from the three-point line.
Samantha Edwards led the 'Dons on defense with eight boards.
The Rockets wre led by Allie Clifton with 22 points. Four other Rockets hit double-digits in the points category. Tamesha Scott led Toledo on defense with 13 boards.
The Mastodons (0-1, 0-0 Summit League) will now prepare for Texas Tech as they head to Lubbock, Texas to face the Red Raiders on Tuesday, November 13th.
