IPFW Dominates Pilots in Exhibition

Fort Wayne, IN - The Mastodons hosted the Bethel Pilots on Wednesday night for an exhibition contest prior to the open of the 2007-08 season this weekend. The Mastodons scored the first and last baskets of the night, and only gave up their lead briefly in the beginning of the first half. The 'Dons dominated the Pilots, 80-57.
The Mastodons took a six point lead at 17:09 in the first on Johnna Lewis-Carlisle's second three-pointer of the game. A lay-up by Lewis-Carlisle at 10:56 would put IPFW ahead by eleven, 21-10.
IPFW would briefly drop below a double-digit lead just two minutes later, but would finish the half with a fifteen point difference, 41-26.
Jordan Zuppe started the second half with a three-pointer to put the 'Dons ahead by eighteen, 44-26. IPFW took their first 20 plus point lead at the 17:33 mark on a three-pointer from Hannah Thieke, 52-30. The Pilots fought back to deplete the 'Dons lead to 11 at the 13:37 mark.
IPFW took their lead back to 20 points at the 3:02 mark on a lay-up by Nanyamka Moore, 76-56. The 'Dons scored two more baskets to end the game with a 23 point lead, 80-57.
Lewis-Carlisle led the 'Dons with 23 points. She was 10 of 20 from the field and three of seven from beyond the arc. She added eight assists and four steals.
Juliane Höhne also hit double-digit points on the night with 12. She added six boards and three blocks.
Samantha Edwards had 10 points and was 5 of 7 from the field with five boards.
Zuppe matched Höhne on boards with six, adding six points and six assists in the exhibition game.
The Pilots were led by Natalie Young with 28 points and seven boards. Nora Didrick had nine points and five boards.
The Mastodons hit 47.8% of their shots from the field and were perfect at the charity stripe.
IPFW will now prepare for the Toledo Rockets. The 'Dons will head to Toledo for a game on Saturday, November 10th at 4:30 PM. Their next home game is November 24th at 1 PM when the 'Dons host the Miami RedHawks at the Gates Center.
IPFW's first Summit League conference match is December 6th in a doubleheader with the men at the Coliseum. IPFW will host Southern Utah starting at 5 PM.
