
Titans Take Advantage of 'Dons Slow Start

Fort Wayne, IN - IPFW hosted Detroit in their first game of a two game homestand Friday night at the Gates Center. The Titans capitalized on a slow Mastodon start to push ahead at half, 31-24. Detroit kept the momentum going in the second half for the win, 62-52.
The Titans started the game on an 11-0 tear before IPFW got on the board with a Natalie Roberts' free throw at the 15:05 mark. Detroit would take their largest lead of the game, fifteen points, at the 8:34 mark, 20-5.
The Mastodons would slowly start to chip away at the Titans lead with Jordan Zuppe scoring at the 7:06 mark and Roberts making a three-point play shortly after to cut the Titan lead to nine.
Two free throws by Samantha Edwards would cut the Detroit lead to four, 19-23, with 3:20 left. A last second basket by the Titans would put them ahead by seven at the half, 24-31.
Detroit would start the second half off shooting, moving ahead by nine just 30 seconds in, 24-33. Back-to-back baskets by Juliane Höhne would cut the lead to two at the 13:49 mark.
The Mastodons would continue to battle, taking their first lead on a three-pointer by Zuppe, 46-45. At the 1:38 mark the 'Dons were down by three, 50-53 when free throws would give the Titans a ten point lead with 20 seconds left. Chelsey Jackson would score the 'Dons last basket before the Titans took the game, 62-52.
Johnna Lewis-Carlisle led the 'Dons with 13 points. She has scored double-digits every game this season. She was 7 of 10 at the line and had six boards and three steals.
Höhne hit double-digits with 10 points. She was 5 of 6 from the field with two steals.
Zuppe led the 'Dons with seven boards, adding seven points and six assists in 29 minutes.
The Titans were led by Chanica Hall, who scored a career high 22 points. Sandi Brown also hit double-digits with 10 points. India Bruster led defensively with 12 boards.
The Mastodons (4-6) will host St. Bonaventure on Sunday, December 23rd at 1 PM in the Gates Center.
