
Mastodons Improve to 2-0 in Summit League Play

Fort Wayne, IN - IPFW hosted their second conference foe and once again, showed that they were in the Summit League to win, defeating the UMKC Kangaroos, 62-51 at the Memorial Coliseum on Saturday afternoon.
The Mastodons started off the game on the right foot, scoring first and taking a 5-2 lead before the Roos tied the game at five. UMKC would get an early lead built, taking a seven point lead at 13:15, 14-7. The Roos would continue to hold onto the lead over the next seven minutes before IPFW would tie the game at 18 on a layup from Johnna Lewis-Carlisle.
The Roos would once again try to move ahead, but the 'Dons were right there, finishing the half ahead by three, 28-25.
IPFW would carry the momentum from the end of the first half into the second, scoring the next four points to move ahead, 32-25.
The 'Dons would take their first double-digit lead of the game at the 12:54 mark on a layup by Juliane Höhne, 44-34. Just a few short minutes later the 'Dons were up by 16 on a three-pointer by Sarah Haluska.
IPFW would take their largest lead of eighteen points at the 4:03 mark, 56-38. The Roos would slowly try to cut away at IPFW's lead, but the 'Dons were too much, finishing the game with an eleven point advantage, 62-51.
Lewis-Carlisle led all scorers with 16 points. She was 8 of 20 from the field with three assists and two steals.
Höhne connected for double-digit points for the first time this season, scoring ten. She pulled down five boards along with two assists, two steals and a block.
Tina Moen led the 'Dons defensively with nine boards. She added eight points, going 3 of 8 from the field.
Chazny Morris led UMKC with 15 points and seven boards. She was closely followed by Alysa Klein with 13 points.
The Mastodons (4-3, 2-0 Summit League) will travel to Duquesne University on Sunday, December 16th for a non-conference game. The 'Dons will wrap up their travel with the Butler Bulldogs on the 20th before hosting Detroit on the 21st and St. Bonaventure on the 23rd. Both games are at the Gates Sports Center.
