
Underclassmen Score Big in Loss

Fargo, ND - IPFW started off a two game trek to the Dakotas at North Dakota State on Thursday. The 'Dons were down 40-28 at half and couldn't recover, falling 89-72 to the Bison. In a game that was dominated by NDSU, three underclass 'Dons finished in double figures.
"We need to get better and learn to focus for 40 minutes." said Chris Paul. "The youth of our team is our biggest problem but our underclassmen in the second half played extremely well. A lot of positives came from the second but NDSU battled from the start for the win."
North Dakota State started the game off with a seven point advantage with just under seventeen minutes to go, 11-4. They held the lead the entire first half, taking their first double-digit lead at the 8:09 mark, 27-17.
Ashley Johnson cut the Bison lead to eight right away, but NDSU fired back to retake a ten point lead. The Bison took their largest lead of the half at the 4:56 mark with a 13 difference, 32-19.
The 'Dons went into halftime with a 12 point deficit, 40-28.
The Bison replayed the first half, going on a 11-4 run to take a 19 point lead at 16:12. NDSU took their largest lead of the game at the 5:57 mark, 80-58.
A 14-9 run by the 'Dons to finish the game wasn't enough as they fell, 89-72 to the Bison.
"North Dakota State played extremely well and executed the entire game. They knocked down their shots and were clicking from the start."
Tina Moen led IPFW with 16 points. She pulled down five defensive rebounds and was 6 of 8 from the field.
Courtney Reed came off the bench for the 'Dons, posting 14 points, a career high. She was 5 of 9 from the field and perfect at the line, 2-2.
Samantha Edwards connected for 11 points and four assists. Lieselot Malfait led defensively with eight boards.
The Bison finished with five ladies in double figures. Lisa Bue connected for 20 points and was followed closely by Emily Moran with 19. Jenna Lemnus had 14 points and Brenda Slyt and Amanda Girodat each had 12 points.
The Mastodons (11-11) will face South Dakota State on Saturday in Brookings. Game time is 7 PM Central.
Their next home game is Wednesday, February 14 at 7 PM against the NJIT Highlanders. The 'Dons previously defeated NJIT 81-70 on January 27th in Newark.
