Fort Wayne, IN - Junior forward Katelyn Wisner scored twice as Western Illinois topped IPFW, 3-0 in the Mastodons first Summit League match, Sunday afternoon at the Hefner Soccer Complex.
Wisner just missed recording a hat-trick, but a blast late in the second half clanged off the post.
However, WIU (8-1-1, 3-0-0 Summit League) didn't need anymore offense than the junior had already supplied.
The Westerwinds cracked the scoring column just 2:49 into the match as senior midfielder Misako Inaba sent a perfect ball, off of a corner kick, into the IPFW box. Senior forward Bess Rapp was parked right on the doorstep and tapped the ball into the back of the net.
Wisner's first goal of the game came in the 26th minute of play. She gathered in a fortunate bounce and beat IPFW goal keeper Malinda Holmer to the center of the net from about eight yards out.
Wisner's final score came after junior forward Aimee Saint Andre headed a shot off the crossbar. In the ensuing scrum, the ball squirted to Wisner who banged it home from about three feet out.
While they kept Western Illinois off the scoreboard in the second half, the Mastodons couldn't solve the trio of Westerwind' keepers who combined for the shutout.
Senior keeper Julie Remes turned back four of IPFW's five shots on goal. Starter Meghan Tyk stopped the only shot she faced for the win.
With the loss, IPFW remains winless on the campaign (0-9-0, 0-1-0 Summit League).
The Mastodons step out of conference play for the last time this season, for a Tuesday afternoon match at Indiana State. Kick off is set for 4:00 p.m.
