FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW men's golf team hosted and competed in the first day of the IPFW Fall Classic at Chestnut Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The two day, 54-hole tournament began Monday with 36 holes and will conclude Tuesday with 18 holes.
IPFW was led by Tyler Haire, who fired a first day total of 146. Haire played exceptionally well in round 2 after firing a 2-under, 70. Two strokes back of Haire are Mastodons Eric Augustus and Jacob Bailey, who each carded a 148 total on day one. Augustus shot the team's low round in the first day after firing a 3-under, 69.
Other IPFW scores: Ryan Olbin fired a 151, Patrick Kelley managed a 153, Jon Balyeat ended the day with a 154 total, and Johnny McMillen fired a 36-hole total of 160.
The leader for medalist honors is Armando Favela of Loyola-Chicago, who fired a 36-hole total of 134 (-10).
The shot of the tournament came from North Dakota State's Joe Schonack , who carded a double eagle on the par 5, 575 yard, 9th hole. Schornack used a driver off the tee, and then holed out a six-iron from the fairway.
The final 18 holes will begin Tuesday morning at 9:00 a.m. at Chestnut Hills Golf Club.
