
'Dons Play Leathernecks to Draw

Macomb, IL -- Despite a first half goal by junior Mitchell Haifley the IPFW Mastodons played to a 1-1 tie Saturday afternoon.
Saturday's match was the 'Dons final road contest of the season as it saw six players take shots for IPFW. Junior Josh Sommer and Haifley both had shots on goal in the match. Sommer's shot came in the 12th minute of regulation as he tried to capitalize on a Leatherneck foul. His shot was saved by Western's keeper Andrew Ryan.
A few minutes later WIU's Nathan Sanchez stole the ball from IPFW and scored from five yards out on the right side to take on early 1-0 lead.
The 'Dons and Leathernecks both were shot less for fourteen minutes before IPFW's Haifley netted his goal in the 44th minute on an open goal.
Both teams played strong defense the remainder of regulation. IPFW's next shot was kicked by freshman Max Touloute in the 65th minute. Todd Mizicko kicked a shot wide in the 73rd minute, as did Liridon Qafleshi in the 81st.
The 'Dons continued to play tough defense as WIU took five shots in overtime, none of which found the goal.
Western Illinois took 16 total shots and finished with 11 shots on goal in the tie.
IPFW moves to 2-11-3 on the year (0-3-2 Summit League) as Western Illinois goes to 11-4-3 (2-2-1 Summit League).
IPFW's Michael Knitter recorded a season high 10 saves in the contest as Western's Ryan kept one.
Next up for the Mastodons is the season finale and senior night against the Jaguars from IUPUI on Friday, November 7. Match time is set for 7 p.m. ET.
