
Women's Golf Takes Ninth at League Championships

MACOMB, Ill. - The IPFW women's golf team shot their best round of the Summit League Championships, carding a three-day team score of 330 to secure a ninth place finish in their inaugural season in the league.
The Mastodons finished the event with a total of 1,044, three strokes ahead of 10th place Southern Utah. Oral Roberts dominated the field with a three-day total of 917, with South Dakota State (959), Oakland (987), North Dakota State (989), Western Illinois (990), Centenary (993), IUPUI (1,017) and UMKC (1,027) rounding out the teams in the field.
Leading the way on the final day for the `Dons was Abbey Waltke, who carded a 76, the best round by an IPFW golfer on the weekend. Following close behind on the final day was Jillian Speece, who shot a 78 on the final day. Nicolle Geyer and Nikki LeRose rounded out the scoring members of the team with an 87 and 89, respectively. Alison Rathsman rounded out the traveling squad with a 91.
Waltke's three-day total of 252 was best on the team, placing her 25th overall; with Speece's 256 placing her 29th. Geyer and Rathsman finished two strokes apart over the two days, shooting 269 and 271, each, while Lerose's 277 placed her 47th in the field.
