
Grizzlies Sweep Series Finale from IPFW

Rochester, MI - When they had to come up big, the Oakland Golden Grizzlies did in a series finale, double header sweep of IPFW on Sunday afternoon.
Oakland won both games in their final at-bat. Taking the opener 7-6 and the nightcap 7-5.
In the opener, IPFW tied the game at six in the top of the ninth inning. With a pair of Mastodons on, and two out, right fielder Garrett Segraves singled to center field scoring second baseman Mark Carden.
Oakland would eventually win the contest on a walk-off RBI single by first baseman Taylor Traub in the bottom of the ninth.
IPFW outhit Oakland 13-11 with first baseman Shaun VanDriessche's three hits leading the way.
Junior third baseman Chris Gottschall drilled his fourth home run of the year in the second inning.
In Game 2, after spotting the Oakland a 2-0 lead, IPFW got three runs in the second inning.
Junior left fielder Quentin Brown got the inning going with an RBI single to center.
Junior catcher Devin Taylor chased home two runs with his ninth double of the season.
OU and IPFW traded runs in the fourth and the Golden Grizzlies got one in the fifth to tie the game at four.
The 'Dons took the lead in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI single from Gottschall.
But, Oakland would pile on three runs in the bottom of the sixth and work out of a bases loaded jam in the seventh to seal the win.
With the double header loss, IPFW falls to 12-31-1 and 8-12 in the Summit League.
Oakland improved to 13-21 and 6-7 in league play.
IPFW will play their final eight games of the 2008 regular season at home, beginning with a four-game series against South Dakota State.
The 'Dons will wrap up the '08 campaign against Oral Roberts.
