Fort Wayne, IN - IUPUI came out and threw a haymaker at IPFW and the Mastodons couldn't recover in an 84-57 loss at the Hilliard Gates Sports Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Jaguars (10-10, 3-6 SL) scored the game's first 10 points, six of them coming from a pair of 3-pointers from senior guard Gary Patterson.
Following a triple from IPFW's sophomore guard Zach Plackemeier, Patterson drilled another trey and junior forward Robert Glenn slammed home a pair of dunks as the Jaguars opened up an early 17 point lead.
Patterson definitely had the feel, he went 6-9 from behind the arc in the opening half as the Jags took a 49-25 halftime lead.
Mastodons guard Ben Botts scored 10 second half markers for the 'Dons and finished with a team-high 16, but IPFW couldn't overcome IUPUI's blistering first half.
IUPUI, who had lost their previous five Summit League games, shot 59.6% in the game and outrebounded IPFW 30-23.
The Jaguars were led by Patterson and Glenn, each with 20 points. Glenn posted a double-double with 10 rebounds. Sophomore guard Leroy Nobles added 17.
Botts was joined in double figures by junior guard Nick Daniels and Plackemeier with 10 points each.
With the loss, IPFW falls to 8-12, 3-6 in league play. The Mastodons will hit the road for the next two Summit League contests. The 'Dons face South Dakota State on Thursday night (1/29) and head to North Dakota State next Saturday night (1/31).
