Men's Golf Concludes First Event

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The IPFW men's golf team has concluded its first tournament of the 2009 season at the North-South Collegiate in Jacksonville, Florida. The Mastodons finished the event in tenth place.
IPFW fired a team total of 581 over 36 holes, and finished four strokes behind ninth place Georgia Southwestern. Florida Gulf Coast University took home the team title with a 544 total, followed by Jacksonville University (554) and Laval University (555).
IPFW was led once again by Patrick Kelley, who fired an even par 70, and finished tied for 12th place. Kelley finished the event with a 149 (-1).
Jon Balyeat finished in 36th place after firing a 36-hole total of 145 (72-73). Finishing three strokes behind Balyeat was Ryan Olbin, who fired a 75 on Tuesday, and ended the event in a tie for 47th place.
Hartley McLeod III concluded his first collegiate tournament in over a year with a 153, good enough for 61st place. Tyler Haire rounded out the 'Dons team total with a 155 over two days.
IPFW had two players competing individually in Jacksonville, and both played exceptionally well. Johnny McMillen fired a team best 68 on Tuesday, and placed in 27th place with a 36-hole total of 143. Jacob Bailey also turned in a fine performance with a 70 on the final 18 holes, and finished with a 146, good enough for 41st place.
Next up for IPFW is the Ball State Cardinal Collegiate on March 28-29 in Jasper, Indiana.
