
#14 Coastal Carolina Tops IPFW, 14-2

Conway, SC - IPFW got on the board first against #14 Coastal Carolina on Thursday evening at Watson Stadium, but the Chanticleers scored in six of their eight at-bats to top the Mastodons 14-2.
The game was a prelude to the Carvelle Resort Classic which Coastal Carolina will host beginning on Friday.
IPFW opened the scoring in the top of the 1st inning as Mastodons first baseman Shaun VanDriessche singled through the left side scoring sophomore center fielder Garrett Segraves.
The Chants (8-1) tied the game in the bottom of the frame and scored four times in the top of the second.
Coastal Carolina got two more in the third on a pair of sacrifice flies.
IPFW got one back in the top of the fourth as VanDriessche tripled to center and came home on an infield ground out by third baseman Mark Carden.
The Chants put it away with three in the sixth and three in the eighth for their eighth win of the season.
Coastal sophomore third baseman Scott Woodward swung the big stick for the Chants, going 3-3 with two RBI and five runs scored.
Keith Hessler earned the win for the Chants, striking out five and allowing four hits and two run in five innings.
Mastodon reliever A.J. Risedorph took the loss, giving up four runs (one earned) on three hits in an inning of work.
The 'Dons committed four errors in the game while falling to 1-3. VanDriessche had a pair of hits and an RBI.
IPFW will open play in the Carvelle Resort Classic vs. Albany at 10:00 a.m. on Friday.
