IPFW Improves on Final Day at Ball State

Muncie, IN- Despite not moving up the leaderboard on Tuesday, the IPFW men's golf team competed well on the final day of the Earl Yestersmeier Invitational hosted by Ball State. The Mastodons finished in 12th place.
IPFW carded a 301 team total on the final 18 holes, an eight stroke improvement from round two. The 'Dons managed a 54-hole total of 916, finishing ahead of Valparaiso, IUPUI and Vincennes.
Bowling Green took home the team title with an 850, six strokes ahead of runner-up and host Ball State.
Senior Jon Balyeat led the Mastodons on Tuesday with a two-over 72. He moved up 10 spots on the leaderboard on day two, ending in 24th place with a 222 total.
Competing in his first tournament for IPFW was freshman Curtis Coverstone, who managed a 78 in round three, finishing in a tie for 57th place.
Tomaz Pinheiro carded a 77 and Bruno Carvalho fired a 76 on the final day, placing the freshmen in 61st and 62nd place, respectively for the event. Drew Imel, also a freshman, put together rounds of 76-80-78 to finish tied for 63rd place with a 234 total.
Bowling Green sophomore Drew Preston won medalist honors with a two-day total of 209 (-1). Teammate John Powers finished runner-up with a 211.
Next up for the men's golf team is the Cleveland State Invitational on September 28-29 at the Sand Ridge Golf Club in Cleveland, Ohio.
