Cleveland State Invitational: Final Results
Cleveland, OH- After a first round of 306, the IPFW men's golf team fired a 321 in round two on Tuesday, finishing the Cleveland State Invitational in sixth place out of 12 teams. The event was cut short to 36 holes due to inclement weather.
With a 627 total, the Mastodons ended the tournament one stroke better than Butler, and ahead of Summit League opponents North Dakota State (628) and South Dakota State (637). Malone College won the team competition with a 598 (295-303). Cincinnati finished runner-up with a 610.
IPFW sophomore Jacob Bailey led the 'Dons with a two-day, 36-hole score of 155 (76-79). Bailey finished the event tied for 17th place.
After firing a team-low 75 on day one, freshman Drew Imel shot an 81 in the second day, ending with a 156 total and a tie for 22nd place.
Senior Jon Balyeat fought off the tough conditions with a 36-hole total of 159 (77-82), good enough for 33rd place. Tomaz Pinheiro finished tied for 38th place with a 160 (78-82), and Ryan Olbin shoots a two-round total of 161, placing in 40th.
Competing as an individual for IPFW was freshman Bruno Calvalho. Calvalho finished tied for 58th place, after shooting a two-day total of 168 (83-85).
Justin Lower of Malone took medalist honors with a 148 (71-78).
The next competition for the men's golf team is the Tennessee-Martin Skyhawk Fall Classic in Paris, Tennessee, on October 12-13.
