Golden Eagles Soar Past Mastodons

Tulsa, OK- In a tough physical battle, the IPFW women's soccer team was unable to keep its first half, allowing three Oral Roberts Golden Eagle goals in the second half and fell by the final of 3-1 in Summit League action on Sunday afternoon in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
With the loss, IPFW falls to 5-7-0 overall (2-2-0 Summit) and Oral Roberts improves to 7-4-1 (2-0-1 Summit).
It didn't take long for the Mastodons to earn their spot on the scoreboard in the first half. Just under seven minutes into the match, sophomore Lisa Underwood was able to score a goal for the Blue and White to give the 'Dons the early 1-0 lead. Underwood's score was her sixth goal of the year.
The Mastodons were able to keep their 1-0 lead throughout the first half. Both teams had a combined total of nine fouls, and the 'Dons were tied with the Golden Eagles with six shots.
IPFW lost its lead at the start of the second period when ORU's Jordan Parsons was able to put the ball into the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1 at the 51:54 mark.
The Golden Eagles struck again around seven minutes later when Jennifer Abernathy, with the assist by Maria Grados, was able to put the ball into the upper right of the net from 25 yards out.
One minute later, ORU added to its 2-1 lead when Abernathy scored off of a pass from the left side from teammate Mary-Kate Halsmer, for the final score of 3-1.
IPFW had a total of 12 fouls and one yellow card, while ORU had nine fouls. Freshman Erin Nayler played the full 90 minutes as goalie for IPFW and had a total of six saves for the 'Dons.
The Mastodons will return to action on Friday (Oct. 15) when they take on Oakland at Hefner Stadium with a 7 p.m. kick-off.
