KETTERING, Ohio - After a 308 team score in opening round play, the Mastodons fell by a stroke as their round two 309 left them in seventh place overall in the Dayton Flyer Invitational at NCR Country Club.
Drew Imel, who sat in a tie for fifth place a day ago, posted a 79 today, sliding 17 spots to 22nd place overall. His two-round total of 152 left him one stroke as six places ahead of teammate Roberto Paciornick. Paciornick posted 18-hole totals of 77 and 76 to tie for 28th place overall. Both scores from the tournament set new career lows for the first year player. His two-round 153 is also the best tournament total for his young career.
Tomaz Pinheiro posted the team's lowest tally of the day, as he paired his second round 74 with a day one 80 to finish at 154 overall with a share of 32nd place. Bruno Carvalho followed four strokes back, closing the tournament at 17 with 18-hole scores of 78 and 80. Carvalho finished with a tie for 47th place.
Junior John McMillen rounded out the IPFW lineup, as his rounds of 83 and 80 gave him a share of 62nd place at 163. Competing as an individual, senior Ryan Olbin checked in at 47th place, with rounds of 81 and 77.
As a team, IPFW posted a tournament tally of 617 to place seventh overall, six strokes ahead of the Valparaiso Crusaders. Evansville captured the team crown with an impressive 591 (292-299). They were followed by IUPUI, Loyola, Malone, Wright State and Butler.
The Jaguars' Michael Davan took home the medalist honors, with a second round 74 to pair with an opening round even-par 71.
Head Coach Billy King's squad will close out the Fall season in two weeks, as they make the trip south to the Country Club of Sapphire Valley in Cashiers, N.C. for the Western Carolina Hummingbird Intercollegiate. First round action begins Monday, Nov. 1.
