Fort Wayne, IN. - The IPFW women's soccer team lost in the final two minutes of a double overtime match, 1-0, against Western Illinois University on Friday evening at Hefner Soccer Stadium.

The 'Dons played an offensive and aggressive first half, they outshot the Leathernecks 6-2 with four being on goal in the first 45 minutes and had a total of 10 fouls while WIU had two.

Sophomore Arianne Mason played a key part in the first half with having three of IPFW's shots with two being on goal for the Blue and White.

The defensive struggle continued on the field until around the 20 minute mark of the second period when the Leathernecks picked up the pace with four shots.

Despite the goal attempts, neither team could get on the scoreboard and went into the first overtime period where WIU outshot IPFW 2-0, but never managed a spot on the board sending the teams into double overtime.

After 107 minutes of play, WIU's Nora Potempa had a corner kick that IPFW cleared but Potempa gained the ball back and sent it into a scramble in the box. Jenny Green was then able to head the ball into the air and teammate Kelly Diershow followed up with the goal, giving the Leathernecks the 1-0 win with just two minutes left in the second overtime.

Both IPFW and WIU had nine shots during the 107 minute match, while the 'Dons had 15 fouls and the Leathernecks had 10 and one yellow card. Mason was IPFW's high scorer with four shots.

IPFW falls to 5-9-0 overall and 2-4-0 in Summit League action, while WIU moves to 9-4-4 on the year and 5-1-1 in Summit League.

The Mastodons will return to action on Sunday (Oct. 24) when they take on the Jaguars of IUPUI in their last home match of the season, kick off is set for 1:00 p.m.
