Fort Wayne, IN. - IPFW women's soccer team defeated IUPUI, 1-0, in its last home match of the 2010 season on Sunday afternoon at Hefner Soccer Complex in front of a season high of 202 in attendance.
Two Mastodon players concluded their IPFW career on Sunday. Ali Okihiro battled through injury to start her 67th consecutive match for IPFW, but a rough play half way through the first period sent her off the field early, while Melanie Esposito had one shot on goal for the 'Dons on senior day.
IPFW and IUPUI remained scoreless until the 72:12 mark when junior Mastodon Tara O'Toole had her fourth goal of the season. Off of a through pass from sophomore Lisa Underwood, O'Toole was able to put the ball in the back of the net from six yards straight out for the final score of 1-0.
IPFW goalie Kristin McFadden played the full 90 minutes and had a total of six saves for the Mastodons. In the highly aggressive match, IPFW had a total of 14 fouls and three yellow cards, while IUPUI had 11 fouls.
With the win, IPFW now moves to 6-9-0 on the year and 3-4-0 in Summit League action.
The Mastodons will return to action on Thursday (Oct. 28) when they travel to Kansas City, Missouri and face the Kangaroos of UMKC.
