Fort Wayne, Ind. - The Mastodons picked up their first conference win of the 2010 season after they defeated North Dakota State University, 3-0, on Sunday evening at Hefner Soccer Stadium.
With the victory, IPFW moves up to 4-6-0 overall (1-1-0 Summit) on the season, while NDSU falls to 5-3-3 (0-2-0 Summit).
The Mastodons got the lead in the first half and never looked back, preventing the Bison from getting on the scoreboard in the 90 minute match.
IPFW came out quickly in the first half with a goal from sophomore Mastodon Rhea Proctor, with the assist of junior Tara O'Toole, from 14-yards out of the right corner of the box. Proctors first goal of the season came just over two minutes into the match for IPFW's 1-0 lead.
Sophomore Lisa Underwood had her first goal of the match at the 23:17 mark off of a pass into the box from freshman teammate Elise Mamanu-Gray from six-yards out.
The 'Dons hung onto their 2-0 lead throughout the second half until Underwood was able to put IPFW on the board once again. Sophomore Tylar Allison had a corner kick into the box that was mishandled by NDSU's goalie, Kathy Kelsey, allowing Underwood to put the ball into the back of the net for the final score of 3-0.
The Mastodons hope to bring home two wins this weekend with away games against Centenary (Oct. 8) and Oral Roberts (Oct. 10).
