Shreveport, LA - A pair of goals by Heath Cox propelled the Centenary Gentlemen past the IPFW Mastodons, 2-0 in the team's final road match of the 2010 season.
From the opening kick, the ball was not bouncing in favor of the Mastodons. Neither were the whistles. Just four minutes into action, the Mastodons would fall a man down, as Colin Helmrich drew a red card, leaving IPFW with only 10 players over the final 85 minutes of action.
The IPFW defense managed to weather a Centenary offensive storm, turning away 12 Gentlemen shots to go to the half with no score on the board.
In the second half, the wheels fell off. Heath Cox netted a goal just three minutes into the period and added another in the game's 68th minute to give his Centenary squad a 2-0 lead.
Cox's goal at the 67:29 mark warranted yet another IPFW red card, as the Mastodon squad was forced to play with another man on the sideline after IPFW forward Andy Masteller was ejected from the match. The nine-man side would not allow any more shots to reach the back of the net over the final 22 minutes of play, as the match closed at 2-0 in favor of the Gentlemen.
The 'Dons offense took eight shots to Centenary's 20 and were led by freshman Mike Enghofer and Chris Moreno with two attempts a piece. Donovan Dowling tallied seven saves in taking the loss.
With the loss, IPFW falls to 2-13-1 overall and 0-5 in Summit League play. They will wrap up the 2010 campaign next Saturday (Nov. 6) as they host the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
