Youngstown, OH - An 18-6 run to end the contest turned a tie game into a 12-point victory for IPFW over the final 4:41 of the game, as the Mastodons improved to 2-1 on the season with a 73-61 win over the Youngstown State Penguins.
Stephanie Rosado made 11-of-18 field goals en route to a team-best 22 points while adding a dozen rebounds for her second straight double-double. Jordan Zuppe, playing in front of 60 friends and family who made the trek from Pittsburgh, scored 15 points for IPFW. Chelsey Jackson and Kayla Drake scored 13 and 10, respectively as Anne Boese was a point off of the double-figure pace with nine.
Rosado pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds, with Jordan Zuppe grabbing eight, tying her career-high in the process, as IPFW out-rebounded YSU 43-38. Drake dished out a game-high five assists, while Boese gave out four scores. Jackson had a team-best three steals, with Rosado blocking two shots.
Youngstown State opened the scoring a minute into the game, taking to a 2-0 lead before IPFW answered back by scoring the next six points to lead 6-2, and never trail again in the contest.
The Penguins twice tied the score in the first half, the latest at 13-13 before the 'Dons ran off a 14-2 run to lead by a dozen at 27-15. IPFW kept its dozen-point margin into halftime, as IPFW led 34-22 heading into the break.
The second-half lead grew to as many as 16 at 47-31 before the Penguins started to chip away at the lead, eventually tying the game at 55 apiece.
After an IPFW 30-second timeout, the 'Dons ran off nine straight points on three-point play by Drake, a Rosado jumper in the paint, a pair of Jackson free throws and a jumper by Jackson, putting IPFW ahead by nine two minutes later.
IPFW iced the game down the stretch by hitting 10-of-11 free throws down the stretch to secure the 73-61 win.
Brandi Brown scored a game-high 29 points for the Penguins, while pulling down nine rebounds to pace the hosts.
After taking two the road for two of its first three games, the Mastodons host a season-long six-game homestand, the first game coming on November 23 when the squad hosts in-city foe Indiana Tech at the Hilliard Gates Sports Center with a 7:00 PM tip-off.
