
Four Selected to IPFW Athletics Hall of Fame

Fort Wayne, IN - Four new members have been selected for enshrinement into the IPFW Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday, December 4, 2010.
The Class of 2010 with be inducted in ceremonies that will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Holiday Inn at IPFW. Here are the 2010 inductees:
Dottie Porch '98 - Women's Volleyball/Basketball
Dottie Porch was a two-sport athlete in her time at IPFW. She originally came to IPFW as a women's basketball player and played three years, but really excelled in her four-year volleyball career. She was named All-Great Lakes Valley Conference First-Team three times, leading the Mastodons to two GLVC Championships. In 1997 Porch was named the Conference's Player of the Year as well as being tabbed an AVCA D-II All-American. She was also named to the All-Great Lakes Region in 1996-97.
A two-time IPFW Female Athlete of the Year, Porch averaged 6.1 points and 5.1 rebounds a game as a basketball player.
Following graduation, Porch played four years of professional volleyball in Europe. During two of those years, she was named Player of the Game in the European Cup Tournament. Porch currently coaches college volleyball. She began her career as an assistant Indiana University and is now the assistant coach at George Mason University.
Porch commented, "I am humbled, honored and truly touched to be considered and inducted into the IPFW Hall of Fame."
Dan Mathews '98 - Baseball
Hard throwing Dan Mathews was one of the finest pitcher's in IPFW baseball history. Mathews played just two years in Blue and White as a junior college transfer, but made an instant and longing impact. Mathews tossed the only documented no-hitter in IPFW history, a 2-0 win over Butler University on April 14, 1998. During his two-years, Mathews averaged a strikeout an inning in 131.1 innings of work. His 13 wins place him second All-Time in IPFW history. In 21 career appearances, Mathews compiled an ERA of 3.71.
For his efforts, he was named First-Team All-GLVC in 1998. Later that summer, he would go on to make IPFW baseball history by being the first Mastodon ever selected in the Major League Baseball Draft (28th round by Milwaukee). Mathews played professionally until 2002. During that time he was named a Pioneer League All-Star.
Chris Gisslen '01 - Men's Volleyball
Chris Gisslen continues the longstanding tradition of IPFW men's volleyball All-Americans. Gisslen was named an AVCA Second-Team All-American in both 1999 and 2000. A setter, Gisslen was an integral part of IPFW's 1999 MIVA Conference Championship and NCAA Final Four squad.
Gisslen was a three-time MIVA All-Conference pick and was the League's Freshman of the Year in 1997. Gisslen set the IPFW single season match assist record on January 27, 2000 with 107 assists against Ohio State.
Following his collegiate career, Gisslen went on to represent the United States as a member of the 2001 World University Games team in Beijing, China. He helped the U.S. to a Gold Medal at those games. He was also a member of the U.S. National Team from 2001-03.
Shacina Hersey '05 - Women's Soccer
Shacina Hersey is the first member of the IPFW women's soccer team to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. A tenacious defender, Hersey also put up some fantastic offensive numbers. She finished her career second All-Time in scoring with 21 goals and 10 assists (52 points). Of her 21 goals, six were of the game-winning variety (tied for first all-time). She is IPFW's All-Time Assists leader.
In 2003, she led the Mastodons to their first winning record in program history at 9-7-3. During that year, she had a team-high 22 points with nine goals (four game-winners). A four-year letterwinner and three-year captain, Hersey was named team MVP all four years she played and was IPFW's Female Athlete of the Year in 2003-04.
"I am extremely honored and humbled to be recognized among such accomplished athletes in an exceptional program," she said.
The IPFW Athletics Hall of Fame was established in 2006 to celebrate the accomplishments of student-athletes, coaches, teams and supporters who have enhanced and reinforced the university's commitment to excellence.
