
Mastodons Rebound with Dominating Win

Farmville, VA - IPFW rebounded from a heartbreaking loss to Hampton on Sunday by leading wire-to-wire against Longwood, beating the Lancers 78-62.
With the win, IPFW improves to 7-4 on the season, its best start in the ten years of being a full NCAA Division I member.
Jordan Zuppe scored a season-high 23 points, making 9-of-10 free throws, while Anne Boese scored 19, and Sydney Weinert a dozen. Stephanie Rosado and Chelsey Jackson each fell two-points shy of the double-figure plateau with eight apiece. Rosado pulled down 10 rebounds, Weinert eight, and Amanda Hyde seven, as IPFW out-rebounded the Lancers 47-35.
Rosado, Zuppe, and Jackson each dished out three assists, while Rosado had a pair of blocked shots. Anne Boese picked up three steals, with Rosado and Zuppe picking up two steals, each.
IPFW scored the first seven points of the game on a Rosado lay-in, a Boese lay-up, and then a three-pointer by Boese to lead 7-0 out of the gate.
The Mastodons would not give up the lead, despite the Lancers closing to within two at 18-16 with 5:11 left in the opening period. IPFW out-scored Longwood 12-4 over the next three and a half minutes. The Lancers twice closed to eight points, but a pair of Kayla Drake free throws to end the half put IPFW ahead by 10 at 34-24.
IPFW gradually increased its lead to 19 four and a half minutes into the second half, and the Mastodon advantage never dipped to single digits the rest of the way, with IPFW cruising to the 78-62 victory.
The 'Dons made 26-of-62 field goals (41.9 percent), 9-of-22 three-point field goals (40.9 percent), and 17-of-23 free throws (73.9 percent.).
Chelsea Coward scored a team-best 17 points for Longwood, as Brittani Billups scored eight points and pulled down a team-best six rebounds.
The Mastodons return to action in a Summit League contest against the preseason league favorite Oral Roberts Golden Eagles, with tip-off slated for 8:00 PM EST in Tulsa, Oklahoma on December 29.
