Men's Golf Drives to 12th Place Finish at Ball State

JASPER, Ind. - On the final day of the 2010 Ball State Cardinal Collegiate, the IPFW men's golf team fired a 308 team total, finishing in 12th place in the overall standings. The tournament was held at the Sultans Run Golf Club in Jasper, Indiana.
IPFW ends the weekend with a 54-hole team total of 924, positioning the Mastodons ahead of Summit League opponents Oakland and IUPUI, and instate foe Valparaiso.
Evansville won the overall team title after firing an impressive 889. The Aces finished two strokes ahead of Bowling Green and four shots past Eastern Kentucky. Host-school Ball State placed eighth with a 913.
For the second straight day, Bruno Carvalho led the IPFW scoring, as the freshman fired a 72 in the final round to go with scores of 71 and 79. He ended the event in a tie for ninth place overall.
Drew Imel shot an 80 on the final day, ending the tournament with a 233 and a tie for 44th place. Tomaz Pinheiro managed an 82 on Sunday, finishing tied for 53rd place with a 237. Ryan Olbin added an 81 to go with rounds of 82 and 76 to finish tied for 63rd place and Jon Balyeat played well in the last round with a 75, taking 77th place.
Matt Schneider of Bowling Green won the individual competition after firing three straight rounds of 71, totaling a three-under 213 this weekend. Nathan Kerns of Marshall finished runner-up with a 218 total.
IPFW will return home for a few practice sessions before heading down I-69 to US-37 to Bloomington, Indiana, to compete in the adidas Indiana Invitational. The two-day, talented-field event begins on April 3 with a shotgun gun.
