Mastodons Putt to Ninth Place Finish at Detroit Titans Invitational

DETROIT, Mich. - Led by freshman Drew Imel, the IPFW men's golf team concluded the regular season on Saturday with a ninth place finish at the Detroit Titans Invitational in Detroit, Michigan.
Competing at the par 72, 7142 yard Golden Fox Golf Club, the Mastodons fired a two-day, 54-hole total of 921 (304-309-308).
Imel, the 'Dons leader on day one, fired a 78 in the final round, ending the event tied for 13th place overall, with a 225 total (73-74-78).
Ryan Olbin, a junior, shot the best round of the day for the Mastodons, as he fought the windy conditions, leading to a one-over 73. Olbin finished tied for 23rd place in the overall standings.
Bruno Carvalho also played well on Saturday, as the freshman added a 74 to go with first day totals of 79 and 77 to place tied for 33rd overall.
Finishing fourth and fifth on the team were Jon Balyeat and Jacob Bailey. Balyeat, a senior, finished in 58th place overall with a 54-hole total of 75-81-83, while Bailey, a sophomore, earned a tie for 63rd place finish with a two-day total of 243 (78-81-84).
Wisconsin-Green Bay held onto to win the overall team title with three rounds 285-295-300 (880). Phoenix junior Austin Ehlenfeldt won medalist honors with a 54-hole total of 217 (70-73-74).
The Mastodons will now return home and fine-tune their swings, as they prepare for the Summit League Championship in St. George, Utah. The championship, hosted by Southern Utah, runs from April 26-27.
