Fort Wayne, IN - A quick red card in the game's 16th minute of play gave the Oakland Golden Grizzlies a man advantage, as the visiting Oakland squad powered past the Mastodons 4-0 in the Summit League opener for both squads.

The game's first red card was issued to IPFW's Mike Enghofer at the 15:40 mark of the opening period, leaving the Mastodons with just ten men on the field for the remaining 75 minutes of the match. The card was the second of what would end up to be eight total cards in the physical match. In addition to the stack of cards, the referees whistled a total of 41 fouls in a physical match that saw the game stop a number of times for serious injuries.

It wasn't long after the Grizzlies took the man advantage that they would knock out back-to-back scores. Michel'le Lipari beat the IPFW keeper far side on a feed from teammate Tom Catalano at the 33:10 mark and Jonathan Evans added another just two minutes later.

Grizzlie keeper Mitch Hildebrandt sent a deep punt into IPFW territory to a waiting Evans who chipped the ball over the head of the Mastodon goalie, completing the rare keeper assist play.

Just nine minutes into the second half, the Grizzlies would strike again, this time taking advantage of an IPFW handball in the box that resulted in an Oakland penalty kick. Forward Makesi Lewis toed the line and converted on the attempt to go up 3-0.

The final icing on the cake would come in the 61st minute of action as Jake Przybycien got a head on a cross from Lipari to close the match at 4-0.

IPFW was out-shot in the match 13-9. Forwards Max Touloute and Danny Ly each took two shots to lead the 'Dons while Donovan Dowling posted three saves in the loss.

The loss drops the 'Dons to 2-7 overall and 0-1 in Summit League play. They will return to action next Friday (Oct. 1) as they travel to Peoria, Ill. for an 8 p.m. matchup with the Bradley Braves.
