First Round Results
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - A two-round total of 600 has the IPFW men's golf team in a tie for 6th place in the BGSU John Piper Intercollegiate at the Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green.
Leading the charge for the 'Dons is sophomore Drew Imel. Imel posted an opening round 76 before firing an even-par 72 on the second 18 of the day. His two-round total of 148 checks in with a tie for 10th place overall.
Sophomore Bruno Carvalho responded well to the wet and blustery conditions that marred Northwest Ohio throughout the day, as he posted identical rounds of 75 to sit in a tie for 22nd place with teammate Patrick Kundenreich. Kundenreich, making his collegiate debut, posted an opening round 77 before a stellar one-over 73 to close the day alongside Carvalho.
Tomaz Pinheiro, stayed steady as well, as he went 75-78 (153) to finish in a tie for 46th place in the 71-man field. Senior Ryan Olbin struggled with a first round 82 before recovering with a 77 in the late round to round out the IPFW lineup.
John McMillen, competing as an individual in Bowling Green, made a strong push to return to the top five as he finished in a tie for 22nd place after rounds of 76 and 74. Roberto Paciornick, making his Mastodon debut alongside Kundenreich, posted rounds of 82 and 78 to finish in a tie for 66th place overall.
The Bowling Green Falcons took advantage of the home course familiarity, as they tallied rounds of 291 and 289 to take an 11-stroke opening day lead. Falcon Drew Preston currently holds a five-stroke lead in the race to medalist honors.
Round three action will tee-off tomorrow morning (Sept. 28) with an 8:30 am shotgun start in Bowling Green.
