Dayton, OH - Two goals in the final minute of regulation, one for IPFW and one for Wright State, sent a barn-burner of a soccer match into overtime where the Mastodons fell to the Raiders, 4-3.
The Raiders were first to strike, as Derek Zuniga fired a shot from the right wing, finding the bottom left corner of the goal for an unassisted tally, his first of the young season.
IPFW's Max Touloute netted his first goal of the game, just eight minutes later as he blasted a penalty kick past the Wright State keeper to even the score with 17 minutes to play in the half.
That tally would hold throughout the remainder of the opening frame as the two teams would head to the locker rooms knotted at one.
Wright State opened the second half with their second goal just minutes into the action. Bry Rockwell-Ashton pushed a header past the outstretched arms of the IPFW goalie, giving his team a 2-1 lead.
IPFW's response would come seven minutes later in the half as Andy Masteller converted on a well-placed cross from Brent Helton. The goal is the first of Masteller's IPFW career.
As the game clock ticked inside of a minute, the game looked like it was headed to overtime. It was, but not before a bit of drama first.
At the 89:28 mark, with just 32 seconds remaining in regulation, Touloute dribbled through the middle of the Raider defense, firing a laser from the top of the box, putting his squad up 3-2 with his second goal of the match and third of the weekend.
With the match seemingly locked up and the Raiders desperate to put a tally on the board in the final seconds, the Raiders' prayers were answered. With just 10 seconds remaining on the clock, Brad Bamberger got a head on a ball bouncing in the box, tying the match at three and sending the dramatic back-and-forth match to overtime.
Playing a man-down after a red card in regulation, the 'Dons survived the first overtime period, but a corner kick in the second minute of action would seal the deal for the Raiders. Bry Rockwell-Ashton tapped in a corner kick from teammate Jordan Haggit, closing a 102-minute race to the finish at 4-3 in favor of the Raiders.
The 'Dons outshot Wright State 15-11 and were led offensively by Touloute's five shots and two scores. Donovan Dowling posted four saves in the loss.
With the loss, IPFW falls to 0-3 overall. Head Coach Mike Harper's squad will return to action Friday night for their home-opener, a 7 p.m. matchup with the Eastern Illinois Panthers.
