Men's Golf Stands in Eighth Place After First Round of Dayton Flyer Invitational

KETTERING, Ohio - Competing on one of the toughest courses the IPFW men's golf team will face all season, the Mastodons fired a respectable four-man total of 311 to stand alone in eighth place after 18 holes at the Dayton Flyer Invitational. The tournament is being played at the challenging NCR Country Club in Kettering, Ohio.
Already making a name for himself this fall, freshman Eddie Tackett led IPFW on day one after carding a three-over 74 (40-34). The first-year Mastodon sits tied for 14th place overall heading into Tuesday.
A trio of Mastodons, juniors Drew Imel, Bruno Carvalho and Tomaz Pinheiro, are tied for 50th place overall after each posted an eight-over 79. Freshman Jacob Groninger rounded-out the IPFW lineup with an 84. He's tied for 79th place with 18 holes left to play.
Playing as an individual this tournament, sophomore Patrick Kundenreich fired a four-over 75 to sit tied for 16th place in the 94-man field.
Heading into Tuesday's final round, IUPUI (293) leads the team competition by one-stroke over Dayton (294).
Michael Oberschmidt (Dayton), Sean Keating (Dayton), Charlie Bull (Akron) and Michael Davan (IUPUI) are tied in the individual competition after each golfer fired an even-par 71.
Final round play begins Tuesday morning with a shotgun start at 9:00 p.m. EST.
