
Imel, Mastodons Tied for 11th Place at Hummingbird Intercollegiate

SAPPHIRE, N.C. - Junior Drew Imel fired an even-par 71 and sits tied for 10th place overall to lead the IPFW men's golf team after day one of the Hummingbird Intercollegiate hosted by Western Carolina. As a unit, the Mastodons posted a four-man total of 298 at the tough Country Club of Sapphire Valley in Sapphire, N.C.
The 'Dons stand tied for 11th place in the 17-team field heading into Tuesday's final round. Gardner-Webb leads the team competition with an impressive 282 (-2), sitting five strokes ahead of UAB (287).
Freshman Eddie Tackett and junior Bruno Carvalho are four strokes back of Imel, as each posted four-over totals of 75 to sit tied for 44th place heading into tomorrow.
Junior Tomaz Pinheiro carded a 77 Monday and is tied for 72nd place, while freshman Jacob Groninger stands tied for 82nd place after firing a 79.
Kristopher Gray of Gardner-Webb is alone for first place in the individual competition after posting a four-under 67.
Final round action begins with a shotgun start Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. EST.
