Mastodons Conclude Fall Season with 14th Place Finish at Hummingbird Intercollegiate

SAPPHIRE, N.C. - The IPFW men's golf team wrapped up its 2011 fall season Tuesday afternoon with a 14th place at the Hummingbird Intercollegiate in Sapphire, N.C. The Mastodons matched their team total from round one with a second day mark of 298, finishing the competitive tournament with a 596.
Junior Drew Imel posted a three-over 74 Tuesday to go with a 71 from Monday to end the event tied for 21st place overall. Imel totaled 10 birdies to lead the Mastodons.
Playing in the number three spot, junior Bruno Carvalho finished the tournament tied for 50th place after a two-day total of 150 (75-75). Classmate Tomaz Pinheiro tied Carvalho for 50th place with rounds of 77 and 73 to end with a 150.
Freshman Eddie Tackett was consistent in Cashiers after posting a 76 Tuesday to go with a 75 on Monday to place tied for 57th overall. Rounding out the Mastodon scoring was freshman Jacob Groninger, who fired a 76 in the final round to finish tied for 79th place overall.
Appalachian State stormed back to win the team competition with a four-man, 36-hole mark of 567.
Kristopher Gray of Gardner-Webb went wire-to-wire to claim the individual title with a two-round total of 135 (67-68).
With the conclusion of the fall campaign, head coach Billy King and the Mastodons will now prepare for the 2012 spring season.
