BOX SCORE
CINCINNATI - Despite a game-high 20 points from senior Anne Boese, the IPFW Mastodons dropped its 2011-12 season opener to the Cincinnati Bearcats by a 74-42 final score at Fifth Third Arena.
Boese made 8-of-19 shots from the field, and 4-of-10 from long range en route to her 20 points. Amanda Hyde added seven points, with Stefanie Mauk chipping in six. Hyde and Sarah Haluska each pulled down a team-best five rebounds, with Rachel Mauk dishing out three assists. Hillary Moore, in her first collegiate regular-season game, had four points and a team-best three steals.
Cincinnati (1-0) scored on each of their first four possessions, jumping ahead to a 9-0 lead, and never trailing in the contest. IPFW trailed by eight following a Hyde lay-in, but an 8-0 UC run put the margin at 16, and it never reached single digits over the rest of the contest.
The Bearcats led 43-19 at halftime, and after Moore hit a lay-in to start the scoring in the second half, Cincinnati rattled off 20 straight points to put the game further out of reach.
The Mastodons would not back down, and closed the gap to 32 at the final buzzer on a Stefanie Mauk lay-in, giving the game its 74-42 final score.
Chanel Chisolm led four Cincinnati players in double-figures with 19, as Dayeesha Hollins scored 17, Alyesha Lovett 14, and Kayla Cook 10.
The Mastodons return home for its home opener at 2 p.m. at the Gates Sports Center, when the 'Dons play host to the Penguins of Youngstown State.
