Indianapolis, IN - IPFW put four players into double-figures, led by 20 points from Stephanie Rosado, as the Mastodons out-scored IUPUI 44-28 in the second half en route to an 84-59 win in the Jungle on Monday evening.
The win improved IPFW's record to 16-6, the best start to a season since 1995-96, while the team's 10 wins tie the school's record for victories in Summit League play, set a season ago.
Rosado made 9-of-14 shots from the field, and 2-of-4 from the charity stripe for her 20 points, while Anne Boese scored 18 on 7-of-11 shooting, with Chelsey Jackson and Amanda Hyde chipping in 15 and 10, respectively. Erin Murphy narrowly missed double-fgures with eight points off of the bench.
Sydney Weinert pulled down a team-high nine rebounds while adding six points, as the Mastodons out-rebounded the Jaguars 39-to-34. Jackson and Jordan Zuppe each dished out five assists, with the Mastodons turning around to a 14-to-7 assist-to-turnover ratio.
The Mastodons and Jaguars traded baskets to start the game, before the 'Dons climbed ahead at 17-10 with just over 13 minutes left in the first half. IUPUI proceeded to rattle off the game's next eight points to lead at 18-17, the first time the 'Dons have trailed since the end of the team's January 29 game against Oral Roberts.
The Jaguar lead lasted for nearly a minute and a half, before IPFW ran off an 8-0 run of its own on a Boese three-pointer, a Murphy lay-up, and a Jackson three-pointer, giving IPFW a lead it would not relinquish for the remainder of the contest.
The lead reached double-digits at 35-24, capping a 6-0 IPFW run, as the 'Dons took a nine-point lead into the locker room at halftime.
IUPUI scored first to start the second half, cutting the deficit to seven, setting the stage for an IPFW 7-0 run which pushed the Mastodon lead to 14 at 47-33. The margin never reached single digits the rest of the way, as the 'Dons cruised to a 25-point, 84-59 victory.
The Mastodons, for the third consecutive game, made over half of its shots, hitting 32-of-60 from the field for a percentage of .533, while knocking down 5-of-16 shots from long range.
Kerah Nelson scored a team-high 17 points, 15 coming in the first 20 minutes of action, while grabbing a dozen rebounds for the double-double. Jasmine Horne added in 16 points in the losing effort.
IPFW next plays on Saturday, Febrary 12, traveling to Rochester, Michigan, for a match-up with the Oakland Grizzlies, with the winner of that game having a leg up on the field for the second seed in the upcoming Summit League Tournament.
