WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - A one-under 71 has sophomore Bruno Carvalho inside the top-ten and helped guide the Mastodons to a 14th place standing after day one of the highly-competitive C&F Bank Intercollegiate.
Carvalho's 71 came in windy conditions on the 6,659-yard course Woods course of the Kingsmill Resort. The Pelotas, Brazil native currently sits in a tie for 7th place overall.
Tomaz Pinheiro and Ryan Olbin each posted rounds of 76 to rest in a tie for 48th place. Pinheiro's 76 came on a strong back-nine that saw the sophomore post a 34 after opening with a 42 on the front. Olbin posted a 36-40 for his standing in third place in the lineup.
Curtis Coverstone followed up his career-best three-round total with an 80 to rest in a tie for 95th place after the opening round.
Drew Imel, who finished second a week ago in Orlando, rounded out the IPFW scorers with an 86 and a tie for 120th place.
The James Madison Dukes stormed out to an opening-round lead with a 281 team score as their Chris Wellde currently has a hold on the individual lead with a 67.
Round two action from the Kingsmill Resort begins tomorrow morning at 8 a.m.
