
Carvalho's Top Five Finish Leads Mastodons at C&F Bank

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Sophomore Bruno Carvalho followed up yesterday's 71 with an even-par 72, posting his first top-five finish of the year as the IPFW Mastodons wrapped up the C&F Bank Intercollegiate in 14th place as a team.
As a team, the Mastodons posted a 298 overall to check in at 601 for the tournament, just ahead of Big East schools Georgetown and Seton Hall in the 126-man, 24-team field.
Carvalho led the IPFW scorers as today's one-under 71 on the 6,659 yard Woods Course at the Kings Mill Resort. The sophomore checked in at a tie for fourth place, with a one-under 143 on the week - his best two-round total as a collegian. He closed the tournament just two strokes off of the lead pace which featured three players who went to a three-hole playoff for medalist honors.
Tomaz Pinheiro carded a 73 in second round action to finish at 149 overall on the tournament. His five-over total for the tournament finished in a tie for 39th place.
Senior Ryan Olbin posted a 77 after an opening round 76 to finish in a tie for 61st place, third among IPFW scorers.
Sophomore Drew Imel rebounded in second day action, dropping ten strokes off of yesterday's round, turning in a 76 to finish in a tie for 111th overall. He was joined by fellow sophomore Curtis Coverstone in 111th as he tallied an 82 for a two-round total of 162.
James Madison (281-291) captured the overall team title as their top two players battled out medalist honors with three playoff holes. Ryan Vince took home the individual crown over teammate Chris Wellde as both finished at 141 overall.
The Mastodons return to the links next week as they travel to Macomb, Ill. for the WIU Beu/Mussato Tournament, hosted by Summit League foes Western Illinois.
