BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Looking to creep up the leaderboard in final round of the John Piper Intercollegiate, the IPFW men's golf team managed a five-man team total of 299 on Tuesday, finishing the event in seventh place with a 54-hole mark of 919.
Entering the final round with a share of the overall lead, freshman Eddie Tackett fired a 75 to lead the Mastodons in the individual competition, tying for sixth place with a two-day total of 221. This is Tackett's second top-30 finish in as many events.
Sophomore Patrick Kundenreich concluded the John Piper on a high-note after posting a 74 on Tuesday to go with rounds of 82-75. He finished in 27th place overall.
Junior Drew Imel placed 28th with a two-day total of 232 (78-76-78). Junior Tomaz Pinheiro fired a team-best 73 in the final round and finished tied for 38th place with a 236 (87-76-73), while classmate and countryman Bruno Carvalho wrapped up the Mastodon starting-five in 41st place with a 237 (83-77-77).
Flying solo these past two days, Mitch Bellam had a solid tournament for IPFW, totaling a 234 (76-82-76) to finish tied for 31st place.
Loyola's Alex Cusumano won the individual competition with a 54-hole mark of 216 (76-71-69). Bowling Green took home the team title after combining for a 892 (305-293-294), beating Loyola, who also finished with 892, in a tie-break.
IPFW will return to the links on Oct. 2, when they travel to Cleveland, Ohio, to compete in the Cleveland State Invitational.
