Des Moines, IA - IPFW freshman Kendall Wienkes tied the school three-set ace record with seven, helping the Mastodons sweep past the Cowgirls of Wyoming University 25-21, 25-17, 25-19 in the tournament finale for each of the two teams.

Wienkes had seven aces, tying with Angie Robbins (8/30/1996 vs. Winona State), Julie Parrot (9/10/1994 vs. Ferris State), and Joni Smith (1988 vs. Ashland) for the most in a three-set match in school history, while having the highest total for a first-year player in a similar-length match.

Emily Spencer once again reached double-figure kills, finishing with a match-high 12 kills while Megan Wiler and Megan Steenhuysen added seven and six kills apiece as Wienkes, Alli Hook, and Jessie Manwaring had five kills each in the balanced offensive attack.

Tessa McGill and Wienkes each had 11 digs to pace the squad, while Hook had a game-high five blocks, with Spencer finishing with four.

The Cowgirls led for the majority of the first set, and led by as many as three at 16-13 before the 'Dons fought back to outscore Wyoming 12-5 the rest of the way in the four-point, 25-21 opening-set win.

In the second set Wyoming once again jumped ahead, and led by three at 10-7 after a 5-0 Cowgirl run only to see the Mastodons fight back, using an 11-2 run to end the set with an eight-point, 25-17 margin.

The third and eventual final set saw the teams go back and forth throughout the early portions, and were tied at 19-19 before IPFW ran off the final six points of the match, using back-to-back Spencer kills, a trio of attack errors, a kill by Wiler, and closed the match with a combo block from Wiler and Hook.

Wyoming was led by Jodi Purdy who had eight kills, while Camille Coffman had seven.

The Mastodons return to action on Friday, September 9 when the squad takes on the Dukes of Duquesne University in the first round of the Cleveland State Invitational.
