Women’s Track and Field Competes in IPFW Quadrangular

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The IPFW women's track and field team competed in the IPFW Quadrangular this Saturday at the Gates Sports Center. The Mastodons hosted Oakland, Detroit and Valparaiso in their second home meet of the season.
Senior Sarah Hutchings took top honors in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:35.02. The Mastodons also had a trio of runners finish in a pack as Rebecca Jacobs, Jordan Tomecek and Rachel Zachar took 8th-10th respectively.
The 4x400 meter relay team of Katy Moore, Rylee Sullivan, Kaylin Taylor and Nicole Urdahl placed third overall. The group set a new school record with a time of 4:10.91. Moore also placed second in the high jump clearing 1.58m.
Julie Jeszenszky and Kayla Boyes finished back-to-back in the 800-meter run. Jeszensky finished first overall with a time of 2:22.31. Boyes was close behind in second finishing in 2:22.35.
Kaylin Taylor was the top performer for IPFW in the 200-meter dash. Taylor placed second in the third heat, crossing the finish line at 26.68.
Courtney Hodgen qualified for the 60-meter dash finals with a time of 8.28. She finished the day with a third place finish clocking in at 8.26.
Two Mastodons ran well in the 400-meter dash. Katy Moore had the best time (1:01.17) while taking second in the second heat as Emily Craig placed third in the first race (1:04.99).
Sarah Hutchings placed third for the Mastodons in the mile (5:18.20). Boyes was also in action, finishing fifth overall at 5:25.36.
Kayla Zink took third in the shot put (12.20m) and fourth in the weight throw. Zink's fifth attempt proved to be her best as she recorded a distance of 13.53m.
Theresa McHugh placed third in the triple jump. She recorded a mark of 10.09m on her second attempt of the day.
IPFW will host the Mastodon Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 4. There will be two more meets on Feb. 10 and Feb. 18 before the 'Dons compete in the Summit League Championships on Feb. 24-25.
