Fort Wayne, Ind. - The IPFW Mastodons put a cap on its three-game week on Saturday, when the squad hosts the Western Illinois Leathernecks at the Memorial Coliseum in a 2:30 p.m. tip-off.

SCOUTING THE LEATHERNECKS
Western Illinois comes into this afternoon's game having won four of its last five contests, including a 71-61 win over Oakland on Thursday evening.
In the win over Oakland, Ceola Clark scored a game-high 19 points while dishing out six assists. Tommie Tyler and Terell Parks each scored 16, with Obi Emegano adding 11 in the winning effort. Parks pulled down eight rebounds, while Tyler had three steals to lead the team.
Emegano leads the team by averaging 13.8 points per game, with Clark scoring 13.1 and Parks 12.8. Tyler is just off of the double-figure pace, averaging 8.5 points per game.
Parks leads the Summit League by averaging 9.3 rebounds per game, while also leading the team with 16 blocked shots. Clark averages 4.7 rebounds for WIU, who out-rebounds its opponents by an average of 1.3 rebounds per contest and has dished out 59 assists, good for fourth in the League, while leading the team with 23 steals.
AT THE SUMMIT
• On Jan. 3, The Summit League ranked No. 13 in the Collegiate Basketball News RPI (rpiratings.com) and No. 15 in the Sagarin Ratings. The Summit League's peak positions were No. 11 in the RPI and No. 12 in the Sagarin Ratings, both as recently as Dec. 19. Last season, the league finished No. 18 in the Sagarin and No. 21 in the RPI.
• Through Jan. 2, The Summit League has a winning percentage of .500 or better against 15 of the 17 mid-major conferences its teams have played this season.
• Through Jan. 2, The Summit League owns a .511 winning percentage against non-league Division I opposition and a .590 winning percentage against all non-league competition. Those clips are on pace to shatter the previous best marks on record (since 1998-99), surpassing the .447 D1 winning percentage and .491 overall clip, both set during the 2001-02 season.
• The Summit League had three players among the NCAA's Top 11 in scoring average (most recent Dec. 19 rankings), more than any other Division I conference. IUPUI's Alex Young owned the nation's highest single-game scoring total this season (43) while Oakland's Reggie Hamilton was tied for second (41).
• Oakland's Reggie Hamilton was named as the Lou Henson Award national player of the week by CollegeInsider.com. The Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the top Mid-Major player in Division I college basketball.
• IUPUI's Alex Young remains as the top active scorer in Division I basketball and enters the week with 1,930 points (through Jan. 2) to rank 12th on The Summit League's all-time list.

According to the latest NCAA Statistical rankings, IPFW junior Frank Gaines currently ranks 18th in the country in points per game, averaging 19.9 per contest. He has reached the 20-point plateau in 10 of the team's 15 games this season
LAST TIME OUT
The IPFW Mastodons toppled Summit League and I-69 rival IUPUI on Thursday evening, using a deep bench and another 20-point scoring output from Frank Gaines to topple the Jaguars 72-67.
Gaines scored a team-high 22 points, while Mario Hines and Justin Jordan scored 14 and 12, each off of the bench, as the Mastodon reserves scored 37 points. Over the last two games, IPFW's bench has out-scored its opponents' 77-18, while IUPUI's bench personnel scored just eight combined points.
Antwaun Boyd narrowly missed double figures with nine points, while dishing out a game-high five assists. Gaines and Boyd added six rebounds as IPFW had seven players with four or more rebounds, with the 'Dons out-rebounding the Jaguars 40-29.

• Frank Gaines currently sits fourth in the Summit League and 18th in NCAA Division I in scoring, averaging 19.9 points per game.
• After totaling one double-double over his first three seasons, IPFW senior Trey McCorkle has picked up two in the first 13 games of the 2011-12 season.
